National Night Out Brings Roadrunners Together
On Tuesday, Oct. 7, UTSAPD hosted National Night Out (NNO), a community-driven event where safety resources available to students, faculty and staff are shared. Held on the Student Union Paseo on Main Campus, NNO brings the Roadrunner community together every October to foster partnerships and strengthen connections.
Attendees enjoyed music and indulged in free snacks like goodie bags and paletas. The event also offered safety-related activities, such as “drunk goggles” and hands-only CPR demonstrations. NNO provides the perfect opportunity for student organizations, university departments and outside partners to host their own booths and share resources available to the community. UTSAPD is thankful for community partners like H-E-B, Raising Cane’s, Santikos, Chicken and Pickle, Nothing Bundt Cake and many others for having a presence at NNO.
Each year, Sgt. Eric Weber enjoys seeing everyone come together to support the Roadrunner community. “It’s one big celebration that connects everyone, from student groups right here on campus, to our community partners like the San Antonio Fire Department and Police Department and VIA.”
UTSAPD hopes the event will keep growing and drawing in more of the community each year. “Every year we try to make it a little bigger. Bringing in more student organizations and community partners just makes it much better for everyone,” said Sgt. Weber.
Since its launch in August 1984, National Night Out aims to educate the community about crime prevention in a fun, informative manner, and UTSAPD is proud that it has become an annual tradition on campus and looks forward to planning next year’s event.
