BA Connect Newsletter - July 2022
Veronica Salazar
Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President for Business Affairs
Dear Business Affairs Familia,
As we welcome July, we look forward to the long holiday weekend for Independence Day. I hope you enjoy the extra time with your family and friends, and that you pause to consider the deeper meaning of this occasion. As you contemplate our freedoms, liberty and independence, I encourage you to think about how we can continue to promote equity through our important work in higher education.
Starting today, we are excited to welcome new colleagues from the Southwest School of Art. Eleven employees are joining areas within Business Affairs. Over the coming weeks, please join me in warmly welcoming these new team members to our Roadrunner familia.
Looking forward to August, the Business Affairs Employee Forum is on the horizon. Each year, I anticipate this event as a time to connect with the entire division. I hope you will join us on Tuesday, August 2 to celebrate our successes.
As you continue working to close out a successful academic year and prepare for the new year ahead, I share my appreciation for your diligence and commitment to our Roadrunner community!
Sincerely,
Business Affairs Employee Forum
Save the date for this year’s Employee Forum! This event is a meaningful opportunity to gather, reflect on our successes and prepare for the academic year ahead. Join us on August 2 to connect with your colleagues and participate in fun activities—with a chance to win prizes! More details, including and RSVP form, will be sent later this summer.
Campus Climate
Last month, we announced that the divisional approach to our Campus Climate next steps would begin this summer. Many of you are currently participating in focus groups, surveys or other conversations with your departments to provide feedback on two key areas: unit-area issues and enhancing communication. In the coming weeks, we will provide more information about opportunities to participate in focus groups that provide feedback on Business Affairs as a whole. Be sure to watch your inbox for more information!
Southwest School of Art Update
UTSA and the Southwest School of Art are in the final stages of combining, leading to the creation of a new expanded arts school within the College of Liberal and Fine Arts (COLFA). As part of this transition, UTSA is welcoming 31 new employees from SSA on July 1. The new arts school will enable the integration of SSA’s prestigious Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) program and expanded community offerings and partnerships with the programs offered at UTSA. Each year, these community outreach programs serve over 4,000 local students and another 5,000 youth in schools and social service agencies. Visit the transition website for more information and updates!
Institute of Texas Culture Community Conversation
The Institute of Texan Cultures Centennial 2068: Community Stakeholder Visioning process Steering Committee has released its draft report for public input. The report includes three feasible scenarios to advise UTSA leadership on the future of the ITC. Now through July 12, UTSA is hosting a Community Conversation enabling the public to provide feedback about each of the three scenarios. An online survey, available in English and Spanish, will guide the feedback process.
Open Enrollment
Mark your calendars! UTSA’s Annual Benefits Enrollment runs July 15-31. Join People Excellence for a virtual enrollment fair to help you assess your benefits needs and review your selections. The enrollment fair takes place July 11-13 and will be recorded for those unable to attend. Be sure to read UTSA This Week each Monday for more information, or visit the Annual Enrollment website.
