Office of the President

Message From The President (Faculty/Staff) - March 2017

Dear Roadrunners,

By now, you have likely heard that Dr. Ricardo Romo has decided to retire from UTSA effective immediately, and I will be staying on as Interim President until a new president is selected, prior to the start of the Fall 2017 semester.

I know the past few weeks have been a time of uncertainty for you. Over the course of my 30-year career in higher education I, too, have witnessed leadership changes and understand how challenging it can be to stay focused. So, first of all, I want to thank you for your continued commitment to what is most important – taking care of our students.

In just the few weeks I have been on campus, I have met with several groups of students, and faculty and staff leaders, and have been so impressed by their dedication and commitment. Everyone I talk to tells me how proud they are of UTSA and of the university’s upward momentum.

While my tenure at UTSA will only last a few months, I am here to make sure you have the support you need to carry that momentum forward and deliver on our shared commitment to excellence.

In the days ahead, I will be visiting various areas of the university and holding meetings so I can get to know you better and learn how best to support your efforts. I also encourage you to contact me if you have thoughts on how we can most effectively advance our mission.

Working together, we will build on UTSA’s many successes and continue taking bold steps that will bring us ever closer to Tier One. I am so honored to have the opportunity to serve you.

Sincerely,

Pedro Reyes
Interim President
