Human Resources Is Now People Excellence

August 20, 2020

UTSA Human Resources announces an exciting step forward as it evolves into the Office of People Excellence. The transition allows People Excellence to place an even greater emphasis on serving the university’s faculty and staff, while creating bold new improvements to operations, organizations and partnerships.

The People Excellence model embraces a strategic role to provide counsel on various human resources issues across the university. Additionally, the reorganization allows for standardized processes and human resources applications, transparent and measurable services, and high-quality data.

The People Excellence model supports four strategic core elements and upholds UTSA’s vision for strategic growth and innovative excellence:

  1. Engagement – Provides an HR Partnering capability to understand the offices and colleges they support. HR Business Partners serve as trusted partners who enable customers to accomplish the university’s strategy and destinations.
  2. Operational Excellence – Creates a single-tiered Shared Services Center that allows a cross-functional unit to handle human resources inquiries, including benefits, leave, compensation, wellness, employee services and data management.
  3. Top Cultivation – Adds a Talent Management capability that defines processes and policies to enable organizational development, succession planning, performance management and organizational change management. Talent Acquisition expands to support colleges and offices in every aspect of the source-to-hire process. New systems and services consistent with human competencies and capabilities, including ePerformance and Talent Acquisition Management Systems (TAMS), launch Sept. 1.
  4. Proactivity – Includes an Agile Support Team (project management team) that scales human resources support to meet special needs. This includes projects, benchmarking and analytics, and process evaluations and improvements.

The move to a People Excellence model ensures the university continues to implement the measures necessary to keep UTSA staff and faculty engaged and qualified.
