PTEAP

Overview

The PTEAP offers academically outstanding students with an interest in physical therapy an opportunity to be granted conditional acceptance to the School of Health Professions at UT Health San Antonio (UTHSA) . Students can receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology or Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology (Kinesiology and Health Science Concentration) at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) and a Doctor of Physical Therapy Care at UTHSA within six years. The PTEAP reduces the time to completion for the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree by one full year.

Program Requirements

Eligible applicants must be full-time UTSA students majoring in Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology or Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology (Kinesiology and Health Science Concentration)

Must have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours

May not have more than 75 credit hours at time of application (AP and Dual credit coursework is permissible and credit hours will count toward the 75 hours maximum)

Have a Minimum overall UTSA GPA: 3.2 and a minimum GPA 3.2 in science/math prerequisites. Note: Competitive GPAs are on average 3.6 or higher.

Have completed 20 credit hours from UT Health San Antonio Math and Science PT Pre-requisites. All PT prerequisites must be completed by the time of matriculation in the DPT program. https://uthscsa.edu/health-professions/sites/health-professions/files/UTSA.pdf

Must meet the UTHSA PT Application requirements for minimum PT shadowing hours needed.

Application Process

Step 1: Submit an application between August 15 and April 30.

Please contact The Health Professions Office to receive the PTEAP Application.

NOTE: Applications have to be submitted by students before the completion of 75 semester credit hours.

Step 2: Applications and support materials will be reviewed by the PTEAP selection committee, which consists of faculty from UTHSA and UTSA. In addition to the academic criteria listed above, the following may be considered in selecting students for admission to the PTEAP.

  • Work experience,
  • Honors and awards,
  • Extracurricular activities,
  • Interest in health professions, and
  • Community/volunteer service.

Step 3: Selected applicants will be invited to participate in an interview with selected personnel from UT Health San Antonio School of Health Professions, Physical Therapy Program. The purpose of the interview is to assess the student’s interpersonal and communication skills, motivation, knowledge about the health profession, maturity, character and personality.
