Public Safety Officers

Public Safety Officers

Public Safety Officers (PSOs) are a visible component of Public Safety who frequently interact with the public and work tirelessly to increase safety and security in the campus community. PSOs are non-commissioned, uniformed security guards who provide a security presence across UTSA campuses and work as a team with the UTSA Police Department to support their shared purpose. We respond to alarms and/or suspicious activity, provide vehicle assistance, and report issues regarding physical security and emergency communication.

We conduct patrols on foot, in visibly marked public safety vehicles and carts, and on bicycles. Our techniques help us focus our patrols on the interior of each campus, which allows us to increase our coverage and provide quicker response times to calls for service. We also oversee Rowdy Watch, made up of trained student employees who assist our department by providing safety escorts and assisting with emergency phone inspections, lighting inspections, building and housing perimeter patrols, and much more.
