What We Do

Public Safety Officers (PSOs) are non-sworn security officers who are dedicated to enhancing our campus safety. Our visible presence has demonstrated an effective deterrent against crime on campus. We also provide security for special events and report issues that could affect the safety and welfare of students, faculty, staff and visitors.

Our PSOs are highly involved in patrolling each UTSA campus, with a focus on patrolling the following:

  • Buildings
  • Parking lots and garages
  • Housing

We routinely seek out and report issues affecting physical security. We respond to alarms, door opening requests and other calls for service. We also provide the following for the Roadrunner community:

  • Campus safety escorts
  • Assistance with door openings and building security
  • Injured/sick persons assistance
  • Customer service requests
  • Campus information and directions
  • Vehicle assistance
  • Bicycle storage

PSOs are available 24 hours a day on all campuses, working under shift supervisors. We assist the Roadrunner community by deterring theft and damage to university and personal property and provide invaluable assistance to UTSA Police (UTSAPD). Our partnership with UTSAPD enhances the overall safety of the university community.
