Compensation Philosophy

The compensation philosophy at UTSA is based on the commitment to attract and retain a highly qualified and diverse workforce that supports UTSA’s bold vision for strategic growth and innovative excellence. Accordingly, the classification and compensation system has the following objectives:

  • Establish and maintain salary levels that promote internal equity and are competitive with external labor markets
  • Take a proactive approach in managing UTSA’s pay plan through regular external benchmarking
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, as well as UT System rules and regulations
  • Make compensation decisions that align with UTSA’s budgetary and financial strategies, with a goal of growth and sustainability

  • Establish compensation levels for positions on the basis of their relative internal worth and external competitiveness within relevant labor markets

  • Establish a compensation philosophy that is consistent with the judicious expenditure of funds entrusted to the university
  • Ensure accountability for compliance with The University of Texas System Board of Regents Rules and Regulations and statutory requirements.
