Wellness Leave
Wellness Leave supports the overall wellbeing of staff and faculty. Benefits-eligible employees can access the incentives below:
- 30 minutes three times a week for exercise.
- Attending an on-campus wellness seminar.
- A maximum of eight hours of Wellness Leave each year, which is prorated based on scheduled weekly hours for part-time employees. Wellness Leave hours may be used for activities supporting the prevention, treatment and/or promotion of employees’ physical, mental and/or emotional well-being.
How Can I Receive Wellness Leave
Benefits-eligible employees can access three different incentives (Handbook of Operating Procedures, 4.20 Section T. policy).
Benefits-eligible employees are allowed up to 30 minutes three times a week during normal working hours for exercise. This is without deduction in salary, wages or any paid leave balances.
Requests are subject to supervisor approval. This approval is based on business need and may be revoked or revised as needed.
No documentation is required to be submitted to Wellness.

Benefits-eligible employees may apply for up to eight hours of additional leave time every 12 months (based on FTE). To do so, employees must first use sick leave to go to the doctor for their annual physical examination. Then, to apply for eight hours of wellness leave time, employees must complete the Wellness Leave Application and attach the following documentation:
- Documentation of an annual physical or well-women visit. This must be within six months of applying. Include one of the two items below and do not include any personal medical information:
- A signed note from your doctor specifying you received your annual physical exam.
- Your Explanation of Benefits with the date of your physical history.
- Documentation of your completed Wellness Assessment. You can complete this through the UT Living Well Platform Powered by Limeade.. First-time users can visit the Living Well Platform Login Guideto get started.
Do not attach your personal medical information to the Wellness leave application.

Benefits-eligible Faculty and Staff may apply for the Wellness Leave Incentive.
Wellness Leave is intended to encourage employees to spend time participating in activities supporting the prevention, treatment and/or promotion of their physical, mental and/or emotional wellbeing.
Employees may use their eight hours of Wellness Leave time however they would like.
If you are a UT SELECT member, please log in to the UT Living Well Platform Powered by Limeade. More information about the platform is available on the UT System Living Well-Make it a Priority webpage.
To receive eight hours of comp time every 12 months, please complete the Wellness Leave Application and attach a note from your doctor or an explanation of benefits as proof of your annual physical exam and a screenshot of your completed Wellness Assessment.
No documentation is required to take advantage of the “30 minutes three times a week” incentive or to attend an on-campus Wellness seminar.
No. The university will not receive information, such as medical information, preventive care exam results or answers to the Wellness Assessment. When applying for wellness leave, only attach a signed note from your doctor or an explanation of benefits and a screenshot of your Wellness Assessment Completion. Wellness does not have access to Wellness Assessment results within the Living Well App. Employees are encouraged to compare their annual Wellness Assessment results to keep reaching new wellness goals.
If you are not a UT Select member, there are three requirements you must meet:
- Complete the Wellness Leave Application. Do not include any personal medical information.
- Provide documentation of an annual physical or well-women visit. This must be within six months of applying. Include one of the two items below and do not include any personal medical information:
- A signed note from your doctor specifying you received your annual physical exam.
- Your Explanation of Benefits with the date of your physical history.
- Complete the one of the Health Risk Assessments (HRAs) using this free online tool. Attach proof of completion to your application. A completion certificate or cropped screenshot showing completion is sufficient.
To view your Wellness Time Off balance:
- Log in to PeopleSoft.
- Navigate to your Timesheet.
- Hours will be added to the State/Straight comp time balance.
- The 8 hours of Wellness Time Off will appear under the STADJ code.
No. Employees are not required to apply for the Wellness Leave Incentive. However, employees are encouraged to take advantage of this benefit.
You may receive eight hours of Wellness Leave once per year.
Yes. All new employees are encouraged to utilize the Wellness Leave incentive.
Yes. All benefit-eligible employees (Full/Part-time) are encouraged to utilize the Wellness Leave incentive. Part-time employees receive an adjusted number of hours based on their hours of work. If the employee’s standard hours per week is reduced after receiving the eight hours of Wellness Leave as a full-time employee in a particular plan year, the number of hours already provided to the employee will not be reduced during that plan year.
No. You must complete a new Wellness Assessment and have an annual physical exam each year you apply. If you are a UT SELECT plan member, you must complete the Wellness Assessment in the UT Living Well Platform Powered by Limeade at the start of each new plan year in September.

- Log in to Blue Access for Members, if you do not have an account yet, click “Register Now” and use your medical ID card to create an account.
- Click on the “Claims” tab on top menu.
- Click “Explanation of Benefits” under your medical visit claim.
- Take a screenshot of your annual physical visit claim and attach to the Wellness Leave Application.
