Disability Accommodations

The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is committed to providing students, faculty, staff, and visitors access to all university programs, activities, and facilities. UTSA provides an educational and working environment that provides equal opportunity to all members of the UTSA community and complies with all federal and state laws concerning the employment and educational access for persons with disabilities in compliance with Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, and ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA) of 2008.

It is UTSA’s policy to provide equal access and opportunity to job applicants and otherwise qualified persons with disabilities. The university prohibits discrimination based on disability in all aspects of the application process and employment relationship.

Job Applicants

Applicants for positions with UTSA can obtain information concerning accommodation in the application process or initiate accommodation requests by contacting the Benefits Office. You can make this request orally or in writing, or someone else can make a request for you.

Employees

Employees eligible for accommodation under the ADA can initiate the process to request a reasonable workplace accommodation. Reasonable accommodation/s are a modification or an adjustment to a job, work, school or program environment that will enable a qualified individual with a disability to participate in the program or process or perform essential job functions. Reasonable accommodations also include adjustments to assure that a qualified individual with a disability has rights and privileges equal to those of nondisabled individuals.

About the Employee Accommodation Request Process

UTSA employees can obtain information concerning workplace accommodation or initiate accommodation requests by contacting the Benefits Office. The accommodation process is a collaborative and interactive process between People Excellence, the employee seeking accommodations, the employee’s supervisor(s) and/or other appropriate personnel.

Having a medical condition alone is not enough to make someone eligible for accommodation under the ADA. Under the ADA, an individual with a disability is someone with a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities.

Initiating the Accommodation Process

Employees seeking workplace accommodation(s) are responsible for initiating contact with the Benefits Office and requesting information regarding accommodation. Employees requesting an accommodation under the ADA should submit their request by completing the following documents. Once forms are submitted, the ADA Campus Coordinator will discuss the next steps.

ADA Grievance Procedures

  • UTSA is committed to provide equal employment and educational opportunities for all qualified persons without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, veteran status, disability, or sexual orientation.
